Despite the positive reviews and an excellent first week, the game has not managed to pick up the steam it needs to compete with its enormous rival, World of Warcraft. Now, a shadow of uncertainty has been cast on its future. Mythic Entertainment has announced that they will be shutting down 63 servers for their MMORPG based on the popular board game franchise. 43 North American and Oceania servers are set to close, and 20 European servers will also be removed. Specific details regarding which servers will be closed and where the characters will be transferred to will be posted on the Warhammer Online Herald news site.These closures are part of an effort by Mythic to consolidate Warhammer Online’s player base which began months ago when players were allowed to transfer their character over to more popular servers for free. The mandatory move to new servers was completed this week and the now-empty servers are set to close.Warhammer Online attracted 500,000 subscribers in its first week. Now, that number has dwindled down to only 300,000.
